• G5 'prohibited technology', Anne Onymus, Rumor Mill. In conjunction with 2x SuperDrive and iDVD3, the G5 has become prohibited technology.

2006

• 15" MacBook Pro (LED Backlit), 06.05. Apple's first "green" notebook has a mercury-free, LED backlit display, faster bus, improved graphics.
• 17" MacBook Pro (June 2007), 06.05. Apple's new top-end notebook has improved graphics and offers a higher resolution 1920 x 1200 display.
• The $399 Mac, eMac redux, Palm Foleo doomed, Compact Flash options, and G4 upgrade vs. used G5, Dan Knight, Low End Mac Mailbag. Thoughts on a truly inexpensive Mac, eMac to replace low-end iMac?, why Palm's Foleo will flop, an alternative to booting from Compact Flash, and upgrading a Power Mac G4 vs. the cost of a used G5.

2008

• With a 600 MHz iBook running circles around a 2.8 GHz Celeron, it was time to switch, Jason Dill, My First Mac. The author now has a MacBook, along with a couple of older, cheaper Macs for use around the house.
• Linux is also leaving PPC Macs behind, jumping ship for Intel, and hardware problems, Dan Knight, Low End Mac Mailbag. One problem with using Linux on older Macs is that many distros are dropping support for older CPUs or even the whole PowerPC family.
