Radius PrecisionColor 8-24X
The Radius PrecisionColor 8-24X is a 12" NuBus card compatible with 680x0- and PowerPC-based Macs running up to Mac OS 8.1. One reader reports success with Mac OS 8.6 on a 7100/80av, although the QuickColor extensions don't work. Another reader reports tht it works on an 8100/110 under 8.6, although there is some "video garbage" during boot.
It may be compatible with higher versions of the Mac OS but no information for Mac OS 9.0-9.1 is available at this time, and it's doubtful that the card is compatible with Mac OS 9.
Details
Two versions of the card were made: one has support for up to 8-bit color, the other has support for up to 24-bit color. Both versions provide standard QuickDraw acceleration and support the following resolutions:
- 512 x 384
- 640 x 480 @ 66.7 Hz
- 832 x 624
- 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz or 75 Hz
- 1152 x 870
Notes
- The 8-bit version is usually substantially cheaper than the 24-bit version, so if you only need this card for driving a second monitor for palettes or the like, don't pay the extra money for the 24-bit version.
- QuickColor 3.3 (part of RadiusWare 3.3) works fine under any Mac OS up to and including Mac OS 9.1.
- Dynamic Desktop crashes the Mac OS at startup when installed on Mac OS 8.6 or higher. SwitchRes (shareware) works to change resolutions instead.
