So Long, Douglas Adams

The science fiction world lost a great humorist and the Mac community lost a great advocate on Friday, May 11, 2001, when Douglas Adams unexpectedly passed on at the age of 49.

Douglas AdamsBest known as the author of The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (first a radio play, then a book, then a TV series, and a movie was in the works), Adams was also an AppleMaster. Here are his two best known pro-Mac quotes:

  • I wrote an ad for Apple Computer: “Macintosh – We might not get everything right, but at least we knew the century was going to end.”
  • The Macintosh may only have 10% of the market, but it is clearly the top 10%.

I can’t say much about Adams – the links below can tell you a lot more about him and his sense of reality. However, I have enjoyed his books (especially the increasingly ill-named Hitchhiker’s Trilogy) and Mac-related columns.

We’ll miss him. So long, Douglas Adams, and thanks for all the laughs.
