Centris 650

Overview

Creating a midpoint between the Mac II line and the Quadra series, the short-lived Centris models were introduced in February 1993. The Centris 650 used the same chassis as the IIvx and IIvi.

• 25MH 68040 CPU
• 4MB RAM, expandable to 136MB using 80ns 72-pin SIMMs; motherboard had 4 SIMM slots
• 512KB VRAM, expandable to 1MB
• ADB ports for keyboard and mouse
• DIN-8 serial ports on back of computer
• DB-25 SCSI connector on back of computer
• three NuBus slots
• one PDS slot
• upgrade path: Power Mac PDS card, Power Mac 7100

Accelerators & Upgrades

• MicroMac Speedy variable speed oscillator (to 29MHz)

Cautions

• Serial port limited to 57.6kbps; use of a 56k modem is not recommended.
