Quadra 700

Overview

October 1991 saw the introduction of Macs using Motorola's high-octane 68040 CPU. The Quadra 700, built in the same chassis as the IIci, was built as a mini-tower, although with no front accessible drive bays. The Quadra 700 and 900 were the first Macs with built-in ethernet, using Apple's AAUI connector.

• 4MB RAM, expandable to 68MB using a single bank of 4 80ns 30-pin SIMMs (4MB soldered to motherboard; hardware cannot address more than 64MB RAM)
• 512KB VRAM, expandable to 2MB
• ADB ports for keyboard and mouse
• DIN-8 serial ports on back of computer
• DB-25 SCSI connector on back of computer
• two Nubus slots
• one PDS slot
• upgrade path: Power Mac PDS card

Accelerators & Upgrades

• MicroMac Speedy variable speed oscillator (to 30MHz)

Cautions

• Serial port limited to 57.6kbps; use of a 56k modem is not recommended.
