TubeTV has a number of user adjustable preferences which change the way movies are saved, converted, and added to iTunes. Preferences are located under the TubeTV->Preferences… option.
Under the Downloading tab, set whether or not you'd like TubeTV to automatically convert downloaded flash video files (flv) to a format compatible with iTunes, Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, etc.
If you choose the auto convert option, you may want to have TubeTV automatically remove the downloaded flv file after conversion. Check the Remove download after converting checkbox to achieve this.
TubeTV can currently convert videos to five formats: Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPhone (Cellular), and generic mobile phone.
The Apple TV format will result in the highest quality video but won't play back on the iPhone and may create larger files than the original flash files. The iPod and iPhone formats are similar in terms of quality, but will optimize slightly for the screen size of each device. The iPhone (Cellular) format is a much lower quality option for streaming video (via a web page, etc.) to an iPhone operating on the EDGE data network. The generic phone format is similarly low quality. The first three formats will all produce files with an extension of m4v while the last two produce 3gp. If you just want to play the files back on your computer, you can turn off conversion and play the original flv files with QuickTime Player (Perian enables this) - note that iTunes won't allow you to add these to its library.
Support for iTunes is new with TubeTV version 1.0. To have the converted file added to iTunes, check the Add to iTunes after converting checkbox. When adding to iTunes, you may want to have TubeTV put all of its movies in a "TubeTV" playlist; if this interests you, check the Use TubeTV playlist box. Feel free to move the playlist anywhere you like in iTunes (into folders, etc.); TubeTV will still find it. TubeTV always adds a "TubeTV" tag and the conversion format (Apple TV, iPod, etc.) to the Comments field in iTunes which enables you to create a smart playlist which will find all TubeTV converted movies; you can use this approach instead of the static playlist if you prefer. The preferences also allow you to set whether iTunes should interpret your movie as a Movie, Music Video, or TV Show. This has no effect on the video other than telling iTunes which area to list it in.
Check the Bring iTunes to the foreground checkbox if you'd like iTunes to pop forward after a converted movie has been added to it. Use the Remove converted file checkbox with care - if you don't have your iTunes preferences set up correctly, TubeTV will remove the converted movie immediately after adding it to iTunes, and then iTunes won't be able to find it. This checkbox should only be checked if you have iTunes set up to copy all additions into your iTunes library rather than just referencing them. The setting in iTunes is located in the iTunes->Preferences… and then under the Advanced->General tabs. Check the box labeled Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library.
PS: TubeTV interacts with iTunes via Apple sanctioned AppleScript calls, so you don't have to worry about it messing up your library; TubeTV never touches the library or your iTunes Music folder directly.
The search field popup controls which site is searched from the main window's toolbar search field. This can also be set by clicking the magnifying glass icon in the search field itself.
TubeTV can optionally load a user specified home page when you start it up; the page loads after about five seconds, so don't be surprised if it doesn't pop up immediately. Make sure to enter a fully qualified URL in this field including the http:// portion. The checkbox to Remember last page loaded will simply set your home page to the last page viewed when quitting TubeTV.
On Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and above, TubeTV can remember the history of recent movie pages you've visited. The history works a little differently from a standard web browser in that it only remembers pages which seem to have a movie embedded in them. In the preferences, you can set how many days the history will be remembered for (0 days will forget your history each time you quit TubeTV). The history can also be cleared in the History menu itself under Favorites->History->Clear History.
Check for new versions automatically will periodically (once a week) check the Chimoosoft web site for a new version of TubeTV. No information is transmitted to our server; TubeTV simply requests a list of current versioning information from the server.
Enable speech notifications will speak to you (in English only) after a conversion or download has completed.
