Facebook is really good at providing all sorts of information about groups. For instance, our group has 5,317 members, but only 3,356 have been active in the past 28 days. Men make up 89% of the group; women, 10%; and “other” or unidentified, 1%.
In terms of age, the biggest number is the 35-44 cohort, with 24-34 not far behind, 45-54 a bit behind that, and 18-24 smaller yet – however, that group only covers 7 years, which would put it ahead of 45-54 if averaged out per year. We still have a good showing in the 55-64 range, a decent number over 65, and not too many 17 or under.
Where You Live
It’s fascinating that three of the Top 10 cities are ones I would never have expected. Facebook doesn’t give me hard numbers, but here’s the ranking:
- New York, NY
- Dhaka, Bangladesh
- Los Angeles, CA
- London, UK
- Sydney, Australia
- Yangon, Myanmar
- Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- Phnom Penh, Cambodia
- Austin, TX
- Chicago, IL
I did not see Dhaka, Yangon, or Phnom Penh coming, especially since this is an English language group connected to an English language website.
And even though only 4 of the 10 cities are in the United States, the fact is that the USA has a lot of large cities, probably a greater distribution of them than any other country. So there’s no surprise that Apple’s home market tops the list of countries and estimated numbers:
- United States, about 2,650
- United Kingdom, 430
- Canada, 215
- Australia, 140
- India, 130
- Bangladesh, 130
- Philippines, 125
- Germany, 100
- Myanmar, 50
- Pakistan, 50
In terms of language, about 390 of our “fans” (which Facebook doesn’t define) and our followers speak English – roughly 90% of our audience. Over the past 28 days, there have been 719 posts, 7,900 comments, and 11,200 reactions.
All of these numbers are fascinating, but the most important thing of all is that we have a very active, very helpful community. Keep up the good work!
