Comparing the A19 Pro vs M1 chip – Tech Specs

It’s interesting to compare the tech specs of the A19 Pro and M1 chip, as they are so close yet far apart. One is a desktop from the beginning of the Apple Silicon transition, and one is a device you can hold in your hands, stuff in your pocket.

While one runs iOS and the other runs macOS, it’s rumored an upcoming MacBook will ship with the A18 Pro chip. That being said, imagine the implications for when we bring an A19 Pro chip to macOS? Essentially, it’s a more power efficient chip that just-about goes head to head with the M1 chip. Despite many of the specifications being similar, the A19 Pro wins in terms of performance.

Regardless, the M1 chip is still a very solid piece of hardware even in late 2025, and as one LEM community member would put it: “The M1 is still a screamer to this day“. Especially when paired with 16 GB RAM, it’s a chip with plenty of breathing room.

GPU Performance

In just about every benchmark which would be found on the website, the GPU in the A19 Pro pulls ahead.

Imagining the future

With a less power hungry chip that can match the relative performance level of a Mac, pairing it to an even larger Mac aluminum chassis for cooling would allow for better even thermal performance. The M4 iMac is already a very thin Mac, and the A19 Pro could enable even thinner iMacs. Or perhaps even, they could build on the power efficiency of these chips and deliver something more powerful based off of it.

Ahead and into the future, Apple’s 2 nanometer A20 chip is going to be a half-step into 3D chip technology, and a monumental leap forward in chip design.

Although this type of technology was worked on and tested for over 30 years by IBM and At&t, it didn’t penetrate the market back then, according to Navid Asadi. Furthermore, he adds that today’s technology and demands make it possible, including a need of higher density of interconnections.
