Everyone, thank you for your continued patience as this matter is being sorted out. There will be 2 more milestone updates on this specific topic after this post to keep our readers informed of the progress being made.
2 Days ago, a website plugin meant to clear out any participant bot accounts inadvertently wiped out a huge chunk of articles from the website, particularly Tech Specs before 2015 and many editorials from 1989 – 2015.
The first attempt to fix was by using the standard backup procedure from the website, which is what took up the first two days of this issue. Unfortunately it wasn’t working, however the good news is – everything is archived using a second method I employed over December.
Good News
- Absolutely nothing is missing even if right now the URL says “well this is embarrassing”, it just needs to be re-uploaded to the website.
. - Low End Mac will get back up and running swiftly. The focus will first be on Tech Specs, then on remaining missing editorials in chronological order. These are two major sets of pages and will take some time. There will be slight iterations on categorization as a result, stay tuned!
What is restored so far
- PowerPC iMac/eMac Index
. - Compact Classic Mac index
. - 458 Editorials from 1989 – 2016 which were not deleted but instead moved to draft mode for some reason
Tech Spec articles which remain untouched
- All Apple Silicon Macs and CPUs
- All Intel CPUs
- All Intel Macs after 2016
- Apple DTK1
- Any minor additions after 2023
Known Bugs
- Strikethough on pages which may or may not be missing
- Indexing will take some time, this should be fixed when the fix is over.
In Conclusion
Thank you all for your patience and continued visitation on Low End Mac! We hope to continue to be an online resource for all.
As Co-editor in chief and someone who wants to take charge of this situation, I will do my best to keep this place up and running!
