More updates this week: iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5

After spending roughly a month and a half in beta, iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 is now available for everyone to download who is currently already on iOS 18, or those who are eligible on a supported device.

Looking at the OS update patterns over the last few years, we can anticipate a few more security patches after this, possibly even iOS 18.6 at some point.

What’s new?

This update finalizes the features and fixes brought to the initial 18.5 beta, and we will list them here as well:

  • In the mail app, you can now turn on/off contact photos – there’s a toggle for that.
    • This is a setting which came in iOS 18.4 when Apple introduced mail categorization, however this setting was hidden in settings previously.
  • In: Settings > AppleCare > Warranty, there is a new design. the top part of the page is more standardized and looks more in line with how system settings works, looks like a banner.
    .
  • When you look at your device list inside your Apple Account, you can now get device-specific AppleCare info. (Is my device covered?) There is also an option to manage the plan.
    .
  • There is a new Pride Harmony wallpaper
    .
  • Now on all iPhone 13s, there is support for carrier-provided satellite features.
    .
  • If you’re on your Apple TV app but on a 3rd party device like a Windows machine or an Android smartphone, you can now use your Phone to buy content if it’s on iOS 18.5. Presumably this means you must also update your Apple TV apps to the latest version.
    .
  • Just like on macOS: If a screen time passcode is entered on a child’s device/parental managed device, the parents will now receive a notification.

.

  • How to download: Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Download now> iOS 18.5 (1.34 GB download) Build 22F76 on all models.

What are the most notable bug fixes?.

  • There used to a bug where for some reason the Vision Pro app doesn’t work at all.
    .
  • A glitch where if you have an app you deleted that happens to have a call history, the calls made would still show up in searches after the app was deleted.
    .
  • There are more 30 new security patches – many about preventing hackers from accessing private data.
    .
  • A glitch where FaceTime wouldn’t mute properly at all times.
    .
  • A new C1 modem “fix” for the iPhone 16e – if a hacker got into your wireless carrier, iOS 18.5 will stop them from accessing network traffic.
    .

Is there something we missed?
