“It’s been a while since I posted here, but could really benefit from the help of the community on this one, despite not being precisely low end. I found a cheap (100$) studio display (A2525) that needed a new display, but apparently intermittently still turning on. (first pictures, from the seller).”

“When it arrived, it did not power up, no signal whatsoever. I opened it to find what you can see in the photos… the display was probably a victim of severe floods occurring recently in Spain, and had signs of having been submerged in muddy water.”
“The fans did not spin from sediment accumulation inside, most screws have signs of corrosion, quite a mess. I disassembled everything, washed it thoroughly and reassembled for testing. I now have power (connected Macs show 94w power supply), but can only briefly have signal to the display, showing the ellipsis for maybe 5 seconds and back to black screen every time it is power cycled.”

“While charging connected Macs, it is not recognized, does not show under “displays” nor using the “detect display” function. it does not show also on the Apple Service Utility. I bought an original Apple thunderbolt cable for testing, so the cable will not be the problem. All signs point to a logic board issue.”

“The final result of the flood salvaged studio display… after power supply and display replacement, it lives again. All in I spent around 750€, and it has some scratches and bruises, so maybe not that wise financially, but it felt good to bring it back to life after what it went through!”
