Since the Radeon 9800 Pro in the Power Mac G4 died, my only functional backup with hardware acceleration in Leopard was a PCIe GeForce 6600 LE. Works with this PCI to PCIe adapter. Maybe it’s finally time to look into some more interesting options, for fun?
Since I’ve hung onto this Power Mac G4 for so many years and it’s not like I’ll be doing anything serious on it, I was thinking of cramming a higher end PCIe GPU, just to show it works.
Not meant for this Mac, but it works
For the sake of video output this’ll be in here. I have a PC BFG 7800 GT 256 MB, and it needs to be flashed in order to get it working in a PowerPC Mac – which I was thinking of picking up a 2005 era-PC for. An onboard PCIe slot + internal floppy disk should do the trick with NVFlash.
I actually had a PowerPC Mac Edition PCIe 7800 GT before, but sold it as it was of no use.. regrettably I wish I had this card. But now that I have a BFG 7800 GT, I won’t let go of it, and fingers crossed it’ll go in the Power Mac G4.
