Turn your M4 mini into a Power Mac G4 Cube

Have you ever wanted to own a Power Mac G4 Cube, but powered by Apple Silicon? Introducing the M4 Cubed, by Juicy Crumb Systems. The ‘M4 Cubed’ is a high quality durable plastic case for the M4 Mac mini, currently in kickstarter.

After going through many prototypes and evaluation stages, this injection-molded case is ready for production! The kickstarter campaign will help gauge interest and therefore production numbers. It’s not cheap to make something like this, and it requires roughly ~$8K worth of equipment to make this specialized sort of piece.

The plan going forward

Anything shipping to the rest of the world will do so directly from Australia, by Juicy Crumb Systems. The items shipping within the United States will be handled by Luke Miani, as the imposed tariffs would cost $80 per case to import directly from Australia, on top of the remainder of the cost of the item itself.

Once enough money is gathered for some scale of production, they can begin making and sending these out. Currently, Luke Miani has a completed “final SLA prototype” case, which is pictured throughout this article.

Proof of concept, prototypes

“The moment the M4 Mac mini was announced in late 2024 the team knew that it would be the perfect candidate for a cube themed accessory. On launch day we went to pick up one of our own, and immediately got to designing..” as mentioned on the kickstarter page.

.
“Following the original proof of concept we continued to refine the design, tweaking dimensions until we were satisfied it would be as luxurious as its inspiration.” they add.
.

Aesthetics

The design is meant to be a spiritual successor (or identical resemblance) to the Power Mac G4 Cube. In essence, Juicy Crumb Systems explains it best.

“Every aspect of the M4 CUBED is crafted to exacting standards: injection seams are positioned with care so they’re optically diminished, and its substantial walls give the cube a reassuring weight that keeps it firmly in place on your desk.”

My thoughts

This gives soul to the M4 Mac mini, in an era of steadily ultra-professional looking and well refined Macs. It’s a throwback to a time when translucency was all the rage, shattering the norm of beige plastics which dominated the consumer computer market for decades up until that point. If you’re a tech enthusiast who wants to elevate your visual experience with vintage flare.. this case is the one for you. While I don’t have an M4 Mac mini right now, it is on the horizon and so is the case.
