Unboxing the new iPhone Air in Sky Blue

A couple days ago on September 19th 2025, the new lineup of iPhone 17s were made available to the general public, along with their respective accessories. I was more keen on keeping the iPhone 14 Pro until I saw the JerryRigEverything iPhone Air durability test, that’s when I knew. So I went with Sky Blue.

What sparked the idea to get this?

Initially I was hesitant because it seemed cost prohibitive, the 14 Pro was already paid off, I genuinely like the Purple color, and the new lineup felt iffy at first. The Pro/Pro Max damage and warp in the exact way I feared, the purple on the iPhone 17 was too light, but the Air still had a Titanium frame and an A19 Pro, so I remained curious.

When I switched plans in my carrier, it made things easier to upgrade the phone. It’s only been not even 12 hours since getting the device in my hands so this is not at all a review, but merely an unboxing with first impressions.

I’m particularly interested in the performance increases offered by the A19 Pro, as with any time there are major leaps in performance. I’m interested in seeing how well UTM SE will run on here, as well as other game emulators.

This phone bears a striking, soulful resemblance to the iPhone X, one of my favorite iPhones ever (if not, the most). It’s either that one or the iPhone 14 Pro I just had so far. The promise of a powerful, durable, and well designed phone sounded good.

Side by Side with the original iPhone X

I never traded mine in, still with the original box and all. This device has since been passed onto a family member, and it’s a great feeling knowing it’s still taken care of and used to this day, intact and all. It’s held up really well!

Sky Blue has a colder tone to it, white just looks completely pale. The color they went with in Sky Blue feels like it’s “just enough” to stand out next to pale white, but on it’s own doesn’t ring the alarm bells of “ah, this must be a different color” immediately. Looks beautiful either way.
