Win 11 on a GeForce 7300 GT is a no-go, but works on a 2006 Mac Pro

When using an original Nvidia GeForce 7300GT 256 MB out of the original Mac Pro: only the dark themes work in Windows 11, Windows 10 seems to work fine. There’s a lot of acceleration glitches with Windows 11 but it’s totally usable as long as all the text shows up in the explorer window. Otherwise, nothing works until you reset the explorer window multiple times.

But I wanted to try Windows 11 just to see. 🤷🏻‍♂️ of course this Mac Pro will be running El Capitan and Windows 10, but it’s cool to see it working. DISCLAIMER: DO NOT BAKE YOUR GPU, THIS this card was dead. This will not permanently fix your GPU. This is a temporary Band-Aid and in the end will probably make the card even worse after a while if it works at all.”

Examples of hardware acceleration issues

Light mode just straight up doesn’t work properly dark mode is about 90% functional… it’s mainly because this is a DirectX 9 GPU and Windows 11 requires DirectX 10 acceleration instructions Windows 10 doesn’t require that.

Some commentary

Someone in the community replied: “yep too old GC missing features.. but im thinking about custom win 11 builds like ghost spectre starting with Superlite SE.”

Greg: or just install 10 IoT LTSC and call a day 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Community member: “nah… I tried to switch from 11 to 10, just for a few days for a game, but I soon went back to 11… actually I later switched to macOS, but we’re talking about a 10 and 11 experience here… now I just installed Lubuntu and am currently configuring it on an imac 2008 Early, which I only use for multimedia as a TV for several years.. few days ago found that browsers on macos sierra not open pages anymore like youtube.. “
