I love Macs, and I’ve been publishing Low End Mac since April 1997. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I haven’t had much time to write lately, but that’s finally changing.
For the past two years I’ve been working full time assembling high pressure air hoses, sometimes doing a whole lot of overtime. Since late August, we’ve been working 6 AM to 6 PM M-F and a half-day on Saturday – with some exceptions – to fulfill some very large orders. After four months of chasing some very big production numbers, we finally got caught up late last week, so no Saturday and now 7 AM to 5 PM M-F.
That’s a big relief. If I hadn’t had my Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook (a machine I dearly love) and a spare monitor connected to it in the break room at work, I would have had very little time to do any work on Low End Mac outside of a few hours a weekend. As it was, I still wasn’t able to do much, but I did cover the low-end iMac’s introduction, and I was able to migrate a lot of our more popular archive content to WordPress, often including new images and links, as you may have noticed.
Despite not very much new content, traffic to Low End Mac has been increasing in recent months, from 150,000 pages per month earlier in the year to over 200,000 pages now. That’s a far cry from the 1-2 million we used to have, but it’s also a big step in the right direction. As that number improves, we’ll see more advertising income.
Low End Mac has become dependent on our community to keep going this year, and even with trimmed expenses, most months we run in the red. If it’s at all possible for you to support Low End Mac financially, either once, monthly, or on an occasional basis, we’d be most grateful. We need about $500 per month in donations to cover our expenses.
We’ve changed our monthly support options, adding a new $3.00 per month option, new $7.50 and $12.50 options, and eliminating the options over $15 that nobody ever used.
Whether you’re able to give a bit every month, a bit more every month, a bit now and then, or just a bit once in a while, it will all help keep Low End Mac going as we move into the new year.
I have lots of ideas and quite a few half-written articles that I’ll finally have time to work on. Stick with us as we re-grow Low End Mac into the leading advocacy site for frugal Apple computing.
