macOS 10.15 Catalina has just been announced, and it’s good news for older Macs.

This may be Low End Mac, but we like to keep up with the latest in the Apple world. With yearly releases of macOS, that also means yearly drops in supported Macs.

This subject is particularly pertinent to me this year. My beloved 2012 MacBook Air 11” is still in use, still suits my needs, but at 7 years old is quickly getting closer to becoming low-end kit and pushed aside by Apple.

The good news is that macOS 10.15 Catalina – announced at WWDC 2019 and due for release later this year – will not be cutting loose any Macs, so if yours can run mac 10.14 Mojave, it will also run Catalina.

Of course, it comes with a bunch of new features, focusing on the shift from iTunes to individual apps, iPad apps on your Mac, Sidecar, and added security – as always. Some of the new features may not be compatible with older Macs.

This has saved my Mac for another year.
