There have been so many different iMac models since Apple switch to Intel processors in 2006 that we’ve found it easier to divide iMac deals into two pages. This page covers older models, which came in 17″, 20″, and 24″ sizes. The other page covers more recent iMacs, which ship in 21.5″ and 27″ sizes.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is supported on all Intel-based Macs introduced prior to 2012, so it works on all iMacs listed on this page. Snow Leopard was the first Intel-only version of OS X and the last version to support PowerPC applications.

All Core 2 Duo and newer models can run OS X 10.7 Lion. OS X 10.9 Mavericks and 10.10 Yosemite work with iMacs as far back as the Mid 2007 models and requires at least 2 GB of system memory (going to 4 GB will really help performance, and Yosemite wants even more to really be unleashed).

For those who can’t afford this much power or who need Classic Mode, an iMac G5 may be an attractive alternative.
