Apple updated the iMac in March with Intel's new Core i7 CPU and nVidia GeForce graphics. Clock speeds now range from 2.66 GHz to 3.06 GHz. 802.11n WiFi, an 8x dual-layer SuperDrive, and GeForce 9400M or GT graphics are standard. 20" aluminum iMacs have an 18-bit color display; the 24" has a 24-bit display, as do all previous LCD iMacs. Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" is supported on all Intel-based Macs, and the new iMacs ship with Leopard installed.

Sometimes Apple refurbs, which have a one year warranty, are less expensive than used iMacs. For who can't afford this much power, the iMac G5 may be an attractive option.

The new iMacs are marked "nVidia" in our listing. Last year's are marked "Penry", the summer 2007 iMacs "Aluminum", late 2006 models "Core 2" models, and first generation Intel iMacs "Core Duo".
