I'd like to start by saying it was good to get this out,
considering that Wednesday's thunderstorms knocked out our phone
lines for awhile. This week, I'm going to take a look at some
emails I got from readers about my column and past articles. Don't
be upset if your email isn't published, as I can only publish a
few.
You'll Have to Choose One
Dear Eric,
It seems that my boyfriend spends more time with the computer than
he does with me. Is this normal? Should I make him choose one or
the other? What should I do?
Best regards,
Heather
- Heather, it seems that your boyfriend has the "disease" that
most computer people have (me included) in that if there is a
computer that needs repairing or work done on it, he'll be right
over there. However, he does seem to have an extreme case of this
if he does it all the time. You'll have to talk to him about it and
tell him how you feel. Don't get mad when he spends time with that
beige box (unless it's running Windows).
Windows XP on a 'Book?
Mr. Schwarz,
I was watching TV the other day and saw one of the commercials for
Windows XP. I noticed the guy on the bench had what looked like a
PowerBook. It seems kinda funny to me that Microsoft would include
this in one of their commercials.
Sincerely,
Bob
- Well, Bob, I've seen a few of the XP commercials, and I didn't
pay much attention (like I should have been?), but I have heard
that from other people, too. However, knowing how Microsoft
sometimes is about accuracy, it wouldn't surprise me.
Cyberterrorism?
To Whom It May Concern,
I was watching the news, and they starting talking about
cyberterrorism might be the new threat. How could this affect me, a
Mac user with a bunch of pre-OS X Macs?
Thanks,
Ed
- In a way I'm glad you asked that, Ed. Most of the possible ways
that people could be affected if they were using the platform that
always gets hit with viruses. You might get stupid attachments from
infected PC users' computers, but they probably won't be able to be
opened or run on the Mac. Since most of the computers are PCs,
anyone who wants to do cyberterrorism would probably go for PCs. Of
course, this is speculation.
Who's That?
Eric,
Who's that "cartoon" picture in the title of your column every
week? Is that you?
Thanks,
Katie
- It turns out, Katie, that the picture is a caricature of a
friend of mine who helped me come up with the title for my column.
I was going to do a picture of me, but it wasn't coming out
right.
Me Hate OS X? No.
Hey Eric,
Do you really hate OS X, as it seemed in your column a few weeks
back?
John
- John, I want you and the rest of my readers to know that I
don't hate OS X. I just haven't seen a real need for me to
upgrade yet (not that I can with my current Macs anyway), but I do
see some real potential for it in the future.
In Closing
Well, it looks like the bottom of the column is nearing. If you
have any questions or comments regarding anything in my column or
the computing industry, I'd love to hear what you have to say, and
there may be another one of these articles in the future. Things
are getting kinda busy at school, so I may take a few weeks off. I
will be back, of course, so until then, I'll see you around the
Web.
Take care of yourselves and each other,
Eric
