Low End Mac (LEM) has served over 750,000 pages and 200,000 visitors every month since December 2001, over 1 million page views and 300,000 visitors per month since October 2005 (with one exception), and zoomed to nearly 1.8 million pages and 345,000 visitors in March 2007. During 2007, we served over 17 million pages to over 4 million readers. Every visitor is interested in Macs, even the 44% who are visiting using Windows computers. (Since the bulk of our traffic comes during the day, we suspect that many of these are Mac fans who use Windows computers at work. Over the past year, the percentage of Mac users has passed the percentage using Windows.)

LEM is a leading resource for anyone using Macs, especially older models. In over 10 years on the Web, Low End Mac has grown from two dozen pages stored on my personal site in 1997 to a respected resource averaging over 300,000 visitors per month and 40-50,000 pages served per day.

Over half of our traffic comes from internal links and bookmarks, and nearly 40% comes from search enginges. Google searches account for over 90% of that traffic, followed by Yahoo at 3.5%, Ask and MSN at 0.4%, and AOL at 0.2%. In a typical month, only 6.5% of our traffic comes through links on other websites - 31% of that through MacSurfer alone. In January, StumbleUpon came in at 4.8%, MacRumors forums at 2.1%, AppleInsider forums at 1.6%, Apple forums at 1.5%, and Informationweek at 1.0%. We are also linked in many Mac-related Wikipedia articles.

Based on which national version of Google visitors to Low End Mac use, we estimate the following worldwide readership:

  1. United States, 75%
  2. United Kingdom, 5.8%
  3. Canada, 5.4%
  4. Australia, 1.8%
  5. Germany, 1.6%
  6. France, 1.1%
  7. Netherlands, 0.92%
  8. Italy, 0.87%
  9. Japan, 0.59%
  10. Sweden, 0.58%
  11. Spain, 0.53%
  12. Belgium, 0.50%

We have been "Slashdotted" several times in our history, sometimes seeing tens of thousands of hits on a page in a single day - and our servers have never had any trouble keeping up with demand.

Low End Mac has been using the lowendmac.com domain since March 1999. To date we have served over 97 million pages (we expect to reach the 100 million mark in mid-March), and we average over 16 million page views per year.

Ads for Low End Mac are handled by Back Beat Media (email Greg Snyder).
