Low End Mac FaceBook Group hits 13K members

We’ve hit another milestone with our Facebook group, reaching 13,000 members as of June 25th, 2025. There was a point in time where we previously were at 13K members, however, many fake/bot accounts were purged.

Low End Mac has had a presence on Facebook since December 2008 – growing over time with an organic community of people. Our main group covers macOS, Macs, iOS-adjacent topics, Vintage Mac topics, and most things Apple.
..

.

We have a separate group squarely for iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS and VisionOS. This separate group is for less Mac-adjacent topics, which focus more on that non-Mac device itself.

Although in the past we had many different LEM community groups, we have since closed many of them down as they were defunct. Some of these groups were not managed by us, in some of those cases people asked for our permission to create a new group under the same name.

Our Vision

Sharing knowledge. Building understanding. Living frugally.

Information doesn’t want to be free, but knowledge wants to be acquired, appreciated, and shared. Sharing it with others helps them acquire useful knowledge (understanding), which they can then apply in their situation. And living within your means (frugality) is the only truly sensible thing.
.

Our Mission

Helping others get the most out of their aging Macs and iOS devices.

We often use words like low-end or older, but we cover a broad range of devices from Apple. Every Mac, iPad, and iPhone is aging, so no more need to debate at what point a Mac becomes low-end.
.

Our Purpose

Helping others understand the value of their gear, how to improve it, and when to replace it.

Just as the mission grew out of the vision, the purpose grows out of the mission. There’s nothing theoretical about what we do at Low End Mac. We want to help you use your gear to the best of your and its ability, know when upgrades make sense, and to know when to move on to something newer. And then we want to help you make the right choice for your next Mac, iDevice, etc.
.

Our Core Values and Attitudes

  • Change is a given.
    .
  • Old is not obsolete.
    .
  • Discontinued is not worthless.
    .
  • History helps us understand why things are the way they are.
    .
  • Science helps us understand the limitations of a technology.
    .
  • As much as we appreciate what is old, sometimes the best solution is to move to something new – or at least newer.
    .

Our Goals and Objectives

We want Low End Mac to be the best first stop for anyone who wants to learn about aging Macs, Mac operating systems, iOS devices, and related technology.

Now that we’ve nailed things down (always subject to tweaking), we can move forward with even better focus.

A bit of who I am

I am a passionate and avid technology enthusiast who has stepped up as co-editor in chief for Low End Mac. Just like our site founder Dan Knight, I am on the autism spectrum and was formally diagnosed many years ago. This passion for computers has been a source of inspiration, growth, creativity, and problem solving skills.

I enjoy learning about many things and have extended experience tinkering with technology extensively despite having no formal education on it. I hope to someday amalgamate the skills/knowledge/mindset I’ve developed with the real-world, and set on a true career. All the while sharing the knowledge I’ve gained over the years with everyone.
