Apple released Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah on March 24, 2001, but a lot of longtime Mac users – especially on the low end – were in no hurry to adopt a new, untried operating system. 10 Forward is about our hesitant steps into the world of OS X. Most of us didn’t dip out toes in until OS X 10.1 Puma was available in October 2001, and many of us didn’t use OS X regularly until OS X 10.2 Jaguar arrived on August 23, 2002.

When launching 10 Forward in November 2001, we wrote:

“Mac OS X is the future of the Macintosh. Sure, there are a lot of old Macs that will never run it, but almost any Mac introduced since November 1997 is ready for some version of OS X – and some even older ones manage to run unsupported installations.

“10 Forward is the place for you, the Mac user, to share your story about moving to Mac OS X. If you’ve used the Classic Mac OS and have tried OS X 10.1 or later, we’d love to hear your story – the good, the bad, the ugly, and the magnificent. Let us know whether you’ve gone 100% OS X, moved back to OS 9, switch between them, decided to wait a bit longer, etc.”
