Power Mac Price Guide

Updated 2002.12.16

This pages exist to help Mac users in the US, Canada, Australia, and UK determine fair prices for used 680x0-based Macs - prices that both the buyer and seller should generally find acceptable. Our goal is to help individuals, schools, thrift stores, businesses, and anyone else find a fair starting point when selling their old Mac and Macintosh clone hardware.

We hope to update these prices on a rotating basis every 4-5 weeks based on discussion on the Mac Price email list. If you believe our prices are out of line, please join the list and discuss matters there. This page should always be considered a work in progress.

Unless otherwise noted, price assumes a mouse and keyboard are included. If they are missing, please adjust the price downward accordingly. All prices are in local currency.

These are user prices, not collector prices.

Model descriptions include the model name, which is linked to its profile on Low End Mac, followed by memory size in MB, a slash, and hard drive size. We try to list at least two common configurations for each model.

Older Macs may have different size replacement drives and memory configurations not listed here. Remember, these are guidelines - adjust prices as feels appropriate.

Upgrade Value

  • All prices assume inclusion of a keyboard and mouse. Subtract $5 for no keyboard. Subtract $5 for no mouse.
  • Additional memory should be valued at no more than xx¢ per megabyte.
  • Internal hard drive values (add $5 for external drives, be sure to deduct value of "base" drive):
    • 160 MB
    • 200-250 MB
    • 300-400 MB
    • 500-600 MB
    • 700-800 MB
    • 1-1.2 GB
    • 2 GB

NuBus Power Macs

All of these models use 72-pin memory and generally shipped from Apple with a 2x CD-ROM installed.

Power Mac/Performa 61xx

The 6100 supports up to 264 MB of memory. System memory is used for video except in the AV version. The 6100 can often be overclocked to 80-84 MHz. Only the 6100/66 shipped from the factory with a level 2 cache installed. Prices quoted assume the presence of an HDI-45 video adapter; without this, the 6100 is essentially worthless.
