Recent site changes and updates: Week of July 20th

In continuation of the site updates posted before, we will continue covering changes in the form of periodic posts whether they’re big or small. We want our readers to see the changes done to the site, many small ones can be time consuming and hard to notice.

This article reflects the most recent updates.

1: Upgraded “listed” view

2025 has proven to be a consequential year in redesigning the tech spec section of Low End Mac. What sparked as an idea ended up rapidly evolving, shaping into a new navigational structure. I understand icon view won’t work for everyone, so a “listed” view was included with as many pages as possible. Here are some recent changes and design goals:

  • Listed view now stays in Listed view, Icon view now stays in icon view.
    .

    • (This is a design goal which is already functional in many areas, but will have hiccups. Target finish date is July 26th 2025.)
      .
    • When you select “List” or “Icon” view, all functional navigation buttons will stay within your preferred viewing style until you change it.
      .
    • Navigational Directory Path > with hyperlinks to previous pages.

2: New, “De-Cluttered” viewing modes

It can be understood how navigating a page to get to another one can be frustrating, when the links aren’t easy to spot in a sea of information. These more-cluttered “list view” pages were to preserve the originality of what they were, but also to add functionality. To make it easier to find and navigate to your desired article, some new buttons have been added.

“De-Cluttered” listed view mode added to the following pages:

3: New Icons for CPU/GPU Index

To make navigating easier, the icons in this part of the tech spec index have been updated.

Also, this is how our CPU / GPU tech spec index is laid out:

4: New “About this lemOS” section added

For those interested in keeping up with all the site changes or are interested in knowing what changed since they last visited, there is a new section called “About this lemOS“.

Obviously this is a website, and the entirety of the navigation is based upon images and text – to maintain backward compatibility with older devices to visit and thematic continuity. Due to the structure and navigation of this website, it increasingly functions more like an OS with many changes (albeit, a very very basic file browser at best). “lemOS” is tongue-in-cheek for calling this website an OS, in-line with how we focus on Macs and their operating systems. It just makes sense to keep up with all changes like this.

5: Power Mac G5 (2003) article updated for 2025

A lot of things have changed over time, much new software has released, community projects developed, etc; and it’s worth reflecting such things for informational accuracy among other reasons. Moreover, we want our existing articles to be as useful and readable as possible for our visitors – so we’re working on reformatting and standardizing informational content on older articles.

Examples of old articles updated/with new formatting so far

Installing the updated information and formatting style on the older articles may take some time. If you would like to see our work in progress, click on some of the links in this article above. There’ll be focus on adding new, relevant information as well as keeping as similar of a style as possible across all articles, to make it easier to read/on the eyes. Feedback welcome.

  • Old articles aren’t being totally rewritten from scratch – existing information will be used too. Sometimes though – an article will contain a lot of new information previously not in the article, and may look totally different!
