The World Wide Web traces its roots to 1989, when the Mac
was five and Tim Berners-Lee published Information
Management: A Proposal in March. A key ingredient in
this proposal was hypertext - links within and between
documents.
By October 1990 Berners-Lee was working on a
NeXT computer to develop the first browser and HTML.
However, the first files weren't posted to the World Wide
Web until August 1991, which should be considered the
birthdate of the Web.
But our focus is the Mac side of the Web, not the whole
thing. The goal of this project is to chronicle the
development of as many Mac-related sites as possible,
including those long since departed. To this end, we'll need
a lot of input and feedback from those involved with the Mac
Web over the past years. If you have information to
contribute, please email
