Umax SuperMac C600

Apus 3000 in UK

C500 & C600The C600 was Umax's least expensive minitower. Initially introduced at 140 MHz, by the end of the line Umax was selling 280 MHz models. The C600 was designed around a modified Tanzania motherboard.

Tanzania-based computers will not boot with a dead PRAM battery. Try replacing the battery before attempting to replace the power supply on a "dead" C600.

The C600 was the first clone to incorporate an inline cache, which Umax called CacheDoubler.

Umax did acquire a Mac OS 8 license from Apple, the only cloner to do so, and the version 5 installer CDs shipped with Mac OS 8.

The C600 is the computer on the right in this photo.
