Getting an old (2002) 700 MHz iMac G4 with just 512 MB of memory up and running reminded me of what a nice – and still useful – operating system Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is, especially on that old Apple PowerPC hardware.

2006 – Here I am, writing another article about PowerPC processors vs. Intel processors (my previous one was PowerPC vs. Intel: Has Apple Been Lying to Us?) – but this article touches on another subject, one that really impacts our elementary schools.
2005 – Switching the Macintosh platform to Intel x86 processor architecture is not a panacea, but Apple’s adoption of Intel processors should not be a major source of headaches – except for the eventual lack of support for Classic Mode on Intel-based Macs.
I think we have enough time now with Mac OS X Public Beta to reach a painful conclusion: The transition will not work, at least not well enough to sustain the Apple we know.
