Teen Orders White iPhone 4 Parts, Makes
$130,000
Fast Company's Austin Carr reports:
"For 17-year-old Fei Lam, the months of anticipation (and overhyped
announcements like today's) were too much to wait for Apple's
much-rumored white iPhone 4. Rather than be delayed by Steve Jobs'
penchant for suspense, Lam, a high school senior from Queens, decided
to give fans what they wanted - and made more than $130,000 in the
process....
"After arranging orders for parts to make a white iPhone 4
conversion kit, Lam created WhiteiPhone4Now.com, which offers the parts
for between $135 and $279...."

Don't Buy an iPad for Christmas
The Next Web's Brad McCarty notes that while the Xbox 360 (likely
because of Kinect) and the iPad are set to rule this year's Christmas
shopping lists, and with the American pseudo-holiday of Black Friday
just around the corner, many people are planning holiday purchases, but
he advises: "don't buy an iPad."
Not that McCarty doesn't like iPads, but he observes that the
currently-available model is very likely going to be old news in the
not-so-distant future, now a bit long-in-the-tooth having been released
in April of 2010, and contending that you can bet that we'll see a
refreshed iPad sooner rather then later with an enhanced feature set
and possibly a lower price, and iOS 4.2's release is imminent as well,
all making an Apple Gift Card a more sensible placeholder as a gift
until the new iPad debuts.
Good advice. I'm guessing early in Q1 2011.

RIM PlayBook Has Faster Web Browsing than iPad
AppleInsider's Katie Marsal reports:
"Research in Motion has offered a hands-on glimpse at its
forthcoming 7-inch touchscreen tablet, the PlayBook, in a new video
that shows the device offers Adobe Flash and has superior Web browsing
speed to Apple's iPad."
"Of course, the iPad has already been on the market since April,
while RIM's PlayBook will not go on sale until early 2011. Apple is
expected to announce its next-generation iPad about the same time."
Editor's note: The PlayBook has a 1 GHz dual-core Cortex A9 CPU vs.
the iPad's 1 GHz single-core A4 CPU and four times as much system
memory, as well as a lower resolution screen (1024 x 600 vs. 1024 x 768
for the iPad). Both of these factors will help it display Web content
more quickly. Of course, if the 2011 iPad has a dual-core A4, that will
bring it to power parity. (For more comparison info, see

Weak Samsung Galaxy Tab Sales, Production
Halved?
InformationWeek's Eric Zeman reports that at least one analyst is
bucking the bullish predictions and believes that the Samsung Galaxy
Tab is already faltering in the market, citing Rodman & Renshaw's
Ashok Kumar in a recent report to clients observing that "Poor sell
through of Galaxy [Tab] has caused Samsung to dramatically revise down
production volumes."

Free Pushpins App Helps Shoppers Earn Rewards and
Save Money at Over 2,000 US Grocers
PR: Pushpins, Inc. has announced the launch of its flagship
mobile coupon and rewards app on the App Store. The free app, called
Pushpins, delivers instant coupons and rewards to shoppers when they
use their iPhone or iPod touch to scan UPC barcodes at the grocery
store. Pushpins is currently supported in more than 2,000 stores
nationwide, including Safeway, ShopRite, Vons, Pavilions, Dominick's,
Randalls, Carrs, Genuardi's, and Tom Thumb.
When using the app, users 'check in' to their local grocery store
and begin scanning their favorite products. Pushpins instantly returns
a list of coupons for those and related products, which customers can
automatically add to their store-issued savings or rewards club card.
At checkout, the customer simply swipes her store club card, and the
savings are instantly deducted from the total and appear on the
receipt.
A short video is viewable at http://www.pushpinsapp.com/howtouse.
The video shows how a real customer uses Pushpins to save money on
groceries.
"Pushpins are just like the coupons you used to clip, but now we
make it as simple as a scan and a swipe to instantly save money on your
favorite products," says Jason Gurwin, CEO and cofounder of Pushpins.
"The best part is that Pushpins users get real savings from their very
first day and every single time they shop."
Using Pushpins is a quick and easy way to save hundreds of dollars a
year on your groceries.
Additionally, Pushpins partnered with Coupons.com, the leader in
digital coupons, to ensure consumers get all of the best coupons
available. The app is simple to use, and children can also enjoy
scanning products - helping out Mom or Dad while keeping themselves
entertained at the grocery store. Pushpins easily links to users'
Twitter and Facebook accounts, allowing shoppers to instantly share
savings with friends. The social platform allows shoppers to accumulate
points the more they use the app so they can compete with their friends
to see who's the savviest shopper. The top savers can earn additional
rewards and prizes.
Available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch.

Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Delivers Martha
Stewart Living on iPad
PR: Adobe Systems Incorporated has announced that Martha
Stewart Living's debut digital publication was delivered using tools
from the recently announced Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. The result,
a special 20th anniversary digital issue of Martha Stewart Living,
subtitled "Boundless Beauty," is now available for the iPad through the
Apple App Store. Ms. Stewart plugged the new digital ezine on ABC's
"The View" as a special guest celebrating Whoopi Goldberg's
birthday.
Created with Adobe's digital publishing technology,
Martha Stewart Living's edition for the iPad re-imagines for the
digital age one of the world's most recognized mass-market consumer
lifestyle titles. Featuring all original content, the app brings
together the inspiring ideas, practical "how-to" information and
beautiful photography that distinguish the Martha Stewart Living brand.
Innovative functionality includes scrolling recipes, slide shows,
videos, audio, animation, panoramas, access to Martha's Twitter feed
and more, to create an immersive, cinematic experience.
Adobe's pioneering work with publishers, including Martha Stewart
Living Omnimedia and Condé Nast, helped Adobe define a new set
of hosted publishing services and tools that comprise the Adobe Digital
Publishing Suite. Built on the foundation of Adobe Creative Suite®
and Adobe InDesign® CS5 software, the Digital Publishing Suite
enables the design and delivery of innovative publisher-branded reading
experiences, paired with flexible commerce models and support for deep
analytics reporting. As other devices come to market, publishers can
use Adobe's tools and workflows to create and distribute digital
publications across multiple devices and platforms.
Kevin Lynch, chief technology officer, Adobe says: "Our work with
the talented design team at Martha Stewart Living has resulted in an
experience that combines the best aspects of the print magazine with
the unique interactivity that is only possible through digital
technology. Through Adobe technology, communicators like Martha Stewart
can make the transition from print to digital while preserving and even
enhancing the fine imagery and design fidelity that their readers have
grown to love and expect."
Gael Towey, chief creative and editorial director, Martha Stewart
Living Omnimedia comments:
"The launch of our new digital magazine is an exciting moment for
us. Our app is the culmination of a tremendous creative effort as we
worked closely with Adobe to push the limits of what is possible on the
new tablet devices."
The Digital Publishing Suite is expected to be available in Q2 2011
and offers both a Professional and Enterprise Edition. Pricing for the
Professional Edition is expected to be US$699 per month plus a
per-issue fee, which scales with publisher volume. The Professional
Edition price allows publishers to access the Digital Publishing Suite
and create applications for all of their titles and publications. The
Enterprise Edition is a custom, multiyear platform agreement that
includes access to APIs for integration of backend publishing services
such as subscription management, print fulfillment and ecommerce. Adobe
also offers professional services to support enterprise level custom
engagements.
Professional publishers that would like to deploy and sell
commercial applications prior to general availability of the Digital
Publishing Suite are invited to join the Adobe Digital Magazine
Publishing Prerelease Program at http://www.adobe.com/beta.

Free ExxonMobil Station Locator App Helps Customers
Find Fuel
PR: ExxonMobil has introduced the "Exxon Mobil Fuel Finder"
iPhone and iPod touch application, which provides drivers with
real-time maps, driving directions and station information for more
than 10,000 Exxon and Mobil retail locations across the continental
United States.
"We are very excited to bring our customers the first mobile app
from Exxon Mobil, using technology to allow customers to more easily
and more efficiently find a station - no matter where they are," says
Ben Soraci, US retail sales director for Exxon Mobil Fuels
Marketing.
Exxon Mobil Fuel Finder is a mobile version of its popular online
station locator, available since January 2001, at
exxonmobilstations.com. The application relies on GPS technology to
identify a user's location and then highlights nearby Exxon and Mobil
stations on an interactive Google map. An advanced filtering feature
distinguishes stations by hours, fuel sold, pay at the pump,
convenience store, Speedpass, car wash and service bay. This feature
will allow customers to seek out specific services prior to their
arrival.
The application also includes an "Our Gasoline" section where users
can learn how Exxon and Mobil fuel helps clean up intake valves and
keeps vital engine parts, like fuel injectors, clean.
"This app is another way, of many, that Exxon Mobil strives to
provide useful information to customers," says Soraci. "Through our
next campaign, for example, we're featuring consumer energy efficiency
messages at stations. While people are filling up, they can read energy
efficiency suggestions, tips I use for my own car."
The Exxon Mobil Fuel Finder is a free application available for
download on the App Store.
Exxon Mobil plans to introduce an application for Android in the
coming months.

Jourist Verlags Releases Battle of Britain
Aircraft 1.1 for iOS
PR: To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of
Britain, Jourist Verlags GmbH has announced the release of Battle of
Britain Aircraft 1.1 for the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch: the British,
German and Italian aircraft that fought in the 1940 Battle of Britain
in one app on your iPhone or iPad.
Battle of Britain Aircraft is a guide to all the aircraft from both
sides that officially took part in the 1940 Battle of Britain:
fighters, bombers and even rescue aircraft, in the service of both the
Axis and Allied nations. The Battle of Britain prevented Hitler from
invading the United Kingdom by denying any German invasion fleet air
cover from the Luftwaffe. The aircraft featured include the famous
Supermarine Spitfire, Junkers Ju 87 Stuka, Heinkel He 111,
Messerschmitt Bf 109 and FIAT CR 42.
Each of the aircraft featured in Battle of Britain Aircraft is
illustrated with the aid of a superb side-view colour artwork, showing
where possible the actual colour scheme worn in the Battle of Britain.
Each artwork is accompanied by a detailed specifications table giving
dimensions, powerplant, armament, performance and weights (with all
measurements in imperial and metric), plus accompanying text that
summarises the design, development and service history of each
type.
Feature Highlights:
- All the aircraft that fought in the 1940 Battle of Britain are
featured, each one illustrated by a full-colour artwork
- Full dimensions, weights, armament and powerplant details provided
for each aircraft, all measurements given in imperial and metric
- Each aircraft's development history and career in full
- Most of the aircrafts' colour schemes shown depict their actual
Battle of Britain camouflage and markings
Device Requirements:
- iPad, iPhone or iPod touch
- iPhone OS 3.0 or later
- 4.4 MB
Battle of Britain Aircraft 1.1 is only $0.99 (or equivalent amount
in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the

Retro Fashion Meets Modern Technology with iPod
nano Watch Strap
PR: Griffin Technology Inc. has unveiled Slap for iPod nano
(6th generation), a decidedly 80s twist on a very modern piece of
technology. The wearable case takes full advantage of the return in
popularity of the wristwatch, and of the new iPod nano's timepiece
functionality, in a fun, fashionable, and protective package.
"Anyone who grew up in the 80s and 90s remembers the slap
bracelet," said Melissa Lapsley, head of User Research at Griffin.
"Fashion trends are cyclical, as seen by the return of New Wave fashion
and new wristwatch trends. Slap for iPod nano is an opportunity to take
something nostalgic and do something fun and unique with it."
Griffin's Slap case crosses a wristwatch and a silicone skin to
create a unique, fun way to keep your iPod nano (6th generation) close
at hand. Slap's flexible, spring-steel band is wrapped in soft
silicone. Snap Slap open, then snap Slap shut around your wrist; it
comfortably self-adjusts to your exact size. Your iPod is surrounded by
a frame of thick silicone that guards against bumps and jolts. Slap
protects the dock connector and volume controls, but leaves the
headphone port open so you can plug in and listen any time. And
speaking of time, you can use your Slap-enclosed iPod nano as a
wristwatch; just press the Sleep/Wake button through the frame to check
the time or control iTunes.
Slap complements your iPod nano with a rainbow of available colors:
red, purple, blue, green, black, orange, yellow, and pink. In any
color, your iPod nano and our Slap case work together to create what
may be the most useful and entertaining wristwatch ever.
Slap for iPod nano, $24.99, will soon be available for the 2010
holiday season at major retailers everywhere, and online.
