One More Sign Henrico Doesn't Get It

- 2005.08.19

You've seen the headlines.

"It's rather strange that we would have such a tremendous response for the purchase of a laptop computer - and laptop computers that probably have less-than-desirable attributes," said Paul Proto, director of general services for Henrico County.

Apparently the people of Henrico County have a different attitude about the value of older low-end iBooks than the officials running the district. By now you've undoubtedly read about the "stampede" to get the computers.

The director of general services seems puzzled, probably because if the computers were 4-year-old Dells, only sixteen people and a confused parrot would have shown up for the sale.

Mac observers will be watching Henrico's transition to Dell carefully, you can be sure, and if there are any significant problems with deployment, you'll hear the Mac world sigh in resignation and emit a collective, "We told you so."
