Patrick McCloskey - 2001.07.27

The top 10 reasons that Steve Jobs didn't announce a new flat panel iMac at Macworld Expo last week:

  1. It just wasn't ready yet.
  2. He was too tired (only had 3 hours of sleep the night before his keynote, exactly why he only got that much sleep may be the topic of yet another future top ten list).
  3. Apple just wasn't ready to take on the deluge of new orders they would get for it (too busy producing new iBooks right now).
  4. Couldn't think of a cool new name for it.
  5. Flat panels are not inexpensive enough yet.
  6. Flat panels are not available in enough quantity yet because they are using them all to make the (now on back order) iBooks.
  7. Waiting for September when OS X 10.1 comes out.
  8. Waiting for September when the investor climate improves.
  9. Waiting for Microsoft to finish XP so they can announce that the XP OS runs on Macs too now (so say some rumors).
  10. Waiting to announce it at around the same time that Microsoft announces the release of XP to steal some of their thunder!
