Gnomes Shoot Past Mac Observers

26 April 2000 - Dan Knight

You certainly can't get complacent about the SETI@home team stats - on Monday Team Lockergnome, which we passed last Friday, gained 10,977 work units to zip right past us and approach the FreeBSD and SETI@Home Poland teams.

As the SETI Checker chart below shows, this was a huge addition for Team Lockergnome (blue), which added about 8.5% to it's total (reaching 139,796 units) in a single day, passing Team Mac Observer (orange). FreeBSD (green) and SETI@Home Poland (black) remain nearly tied at 140,446 and 141,270 units, respectively. We're standing in 19th place with 132,700 units, now 7,096 units from 18th place.

Until this huge infusion of work units, Team Lockergnome was averaging a pretty steady 415 units per day. Our guess is they will return to this level or a slightly higher one, which is lower than the Team Mac Observer (TMO) average, meaning we'll eventually catch and pass them. It's hard to get a feel for TMO's average, since we're adding users daily (thanks to everyone who has joined!), but we are consistently turning in more work units than the gnomes. Our day will come again.

If you'd like to hasten that day, please consider joining Team Mac Observer. Thanks! LEM
